CHASING LITTLE CHILDREN

Firstly, I haven't read the graphic comic book. Secondly, I'm not even familiar with the characters. Lastly, I just wanna find out if Watchmen is more gratifying than Jack Snyder's 300. The denouement is quiet integrated. I was bored but I enjoyed it and I was aroused most of the time . I have never expected that a CGI character is quiet erogenous even if he has a bluish and flaccid wienerwurst. If 300 shows aphrodisiac abs abs abs from start to end, hmmm... expect a crowing cock in Watchmen like you've never seen before. I think this bluish and glowing au naturel doctor is much scorching than those 300 Spartans.

Set in an alternate 1985 America ,as Richard Nixon begins his fifth term where tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union are high and the "Doomsday Clock" is set at five minutes to midnight, former superhero turned vigilante Rorschach discovers that one of his former colleagues has been murdered. As he investigates the murder he uncovers a plot that is intent on killing and discrediting all past and present superheros. As he reconnects with members of his former crime-fighting legion, including Nite Owl II, Silk Spectre II and Dr. Manhattan, they uncover a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy that not only links to their shared past but has catastrophic consequences for the future.

Here's the thing. Two adjectives about Watchmen: Sexy and Violent. When the film starts to become loquacious you may catch 40 winks instantly but Jack Snyder has a vision for us to fight that soporific state inside the cinema because he is a genius when it comes to stimulating our erogenous sense. Yeah, some scenes are really boring but most of the visuals are stunning. It's thawing to see some stylized action scenes once again. I feel like dying watching the grandeur of their visual effects. It's really sluggish but those convulsive scenes with Rorschach is unexpected. Hold on to your seats when blood starts to burst in the movie or you may cover your mouth. The sex scenes are just ravishing. Hmmm... MTRCB cut some seconds of it but it's still hunky-dory.

Are you still wondering why my title is “Chasing Little Children”? Well, the movie is not about pedophilia but it stars three interesting actors who are notable in the movie. First is Matthew Goode who plays Adrian Veidt / Ozymandias. He was introduced in “Chasing Liberty” together with Mandy Moore and I became an instant admirer because he is really handsome. I just don't get his make up here. He looks gay and old. Then there's Jackie Earl Haley who makes for a supremely effective, unforgiving Rorschach and Patrick Wilson as the Nite Owl II who is always flaunting his butt for the nth time every time he has a movie. Guess what?? Both actors are from the award winning film “Little Children”. So that's it. The only hot chick is Malin Akerman as Laurie Juspeczyk / Silk Spectre II. She is just an eye candy for pornographic details. See her acting in “The Heartbreak Kid” and I bet you'll be shocked to see her moan like a wolf. The patient from Grey's Anatomy is here playing as The comedian. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a fine actor who looks like Robert Downey Jr. Surprisingly, the character that I love the most is Dr. Jon Osterman / Doctor Manhattan being portrayed and voiced by Billy Crudup. I don't need to elaborate why I love him. That bluish thingamajig of him is enough for me to giggle like a teenage-boy. Ha ha ha!!!

The movie is R-13 and I guess teenagers with identity crisis should watch this. Just kidding. Well, just don't take this film seriously like it is vying for the Academy Awards. This is a delicious popcorn fun. Just enjoy the graphics, violence, sex and “The Sound of Silence”. Most of all, try to appreciate the bluish illusion.

ONE MAN SHOW

free glitter text and family website at FamilyLobby.com photo_02_hires

Last year, James Bond thwarted me completely. I wasn't even elysian to make a review about Quantum of Solace. It's one of the most unmemorable JB films I've ever seen . Not a long time ago, we also witnessed the trilogy of this fierce young American spy named Jason Bourne. What if these 2 famous sleuths possess one unknown spy this year? The upshot ? A surprise hit which is shunned by some critics but loved by the viewers and currently making wealth in the US Box office. A lurid movie with a heart is just unforgettable and enjoyable. That is the canonic formula of Taken.

The film begins as we meet Bryan Mills who just retired as a spy It seems that his devotion to a job that found him on protected assignments all over the world not only cost him his wife , but also stole him of a kinship with his teen-aged daughter Kim , for which he hopes to expiate. Kim has just requested him to permit her to go a Paris trip with a girl friend. At first, Bryan is unwilling, but eventually changes his mind with conditions. After landing in France, Kim and her friend are abducted and Bryan hears her daughter's cry on the phone. He also learns that 96 hours is about all the time he has before they’re gone forever. Bryan must save her daughter no matter what happens.

This movie works especially us Filipinos. We are familiar with this kind of story from the films of the late Fernando Poe Jr, and other famous local action stars. The movie is all about Daddy's love and it is truly echt . “Taken” kicks off a bit adagio in the first 15 minutes but the minute Bryan Mill's blood is stewing then you must fasten your seatbelt because the suspense never stops. The joy ride is about to get down. Bryan's tactic is very much comparable to Jason Bourne. He is like a killing machine. The movie is really violent but you won't mind the blood and his deadly gun at all.

This is a flick for the tough guys and dads. A perfect film to watch with popcorn and beer on the couch. Recently, Bruce Willis also had a movie with the same premise about kidnapping a daughter in Die Hard 4 but “Taken” has no grandiose visual effects to offer. However, the fight scenes are really damn smashing. You won't stop cheering for Bryan. You won't also stop hating the kidnappers and you want to kill them all too. You won't also stop asking “is that possible?”. I agree some frenetic scenes are quiet impossible but it may be viable too. Just block some loopholes and enjoy the drive. The best thing about “Taken” is its “sexless” approach. Hands down to the brilliant minds of Luc Besson, Mark Kamen and director Pierre Morel.

The main attraction in the film is truly the heart and soul of Liam Neeson. We all know that Neeson can act. He portrays extremely good as an action star in this movie. He is like being possessed with the skills of Matt Damon and Daniel Craig without the visual effects. Neeson is truly believable on his quest. He has the coercive voice of a father and that is palpable during the intense phone conversation with his Kim before abduction. Genuinely, a one man show worth seeing.

You gotta see this one. This is purely entertaining. Honestly, I was even groping at the outset before watching this. I'm not really into this genre but sometimes if there's a strong word of mouth I can easily be swayed. The premise is fictional but it is an eye-opener. Who knows that the issue is really happening in Europe? “Taken” has changed my life in a moment. Kids, please listen to your parents!!!
This movie rocks!!! BIG TIME!

A MELANCHOLIC REUNION

Finally, the award-winning “road” has arrived our shores. I've been waiting for Revolutionary Road since last year. This is the reunion of Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet for James' sake. The film must be released in the Philippines. Now it's here. Thanks to Ayala Cinema. It's amazing that the chemistry of Jack & Rose is still steaming. Being a fan of Titanic, I think I missed them so much.

The year is 1955, Frank and April Wheeler, a fine-looking couple with two children who live in a beautiful suburban home in Revolutionary Road, are quiet unhappy. Frank is working for a Manhattan computer company; April was once a stage actress who abandoned these ambitions to be a wife and mother. After a grotty tiff, they hit on an breathtaking clandestine plan; they will move to Paris where April will get a moneymaking secretarial job and maintain Frank while he figures out what he really wants to do with his life. April knows that Paris is a place that Frank loves all these years. The plan seems to doing good but some things can change along the way. It may hurt them badly.

The story is based on the novel by Ricard Yates. I have no idea about it. Anyway, the story is lovely. I love it. It's about the struggle of this young American couple. You will see the pain in their words every time they have a fight. Unfortunately, you won't love their characters. But you can feel the melancholy in the movie. If Titanic left us with a brokenhearted ending, Revolutionary Road sort of replicates the same conclusion. No wonder they did not nominate this for Best Picture because it's very depressing and disturbing. The film is also not for everyone, unfortunately.

Technically, Sam Mendes is still a creative auteur. It is just eldritch to know that he is also directing his wife Kate Winslet. Kate has some love scenes with other actors and it bugged me for a while. He first directed the award-winning “American Beauty” and followed it with “The Road to Perdition”. I missed his 3rd project called “Jarhead”. I'm planning to rent the DVD soon. I think his next film will be called American Perdition” or “Jar Beauty”. Just kidding! Revolutionary Road's production design is really breathtaking and the Oscar nomination is just right. The costume design for the 1950's is also exquisite.

The main attraction actually in the film is Leo & Kate. They both show their vibrating performances to date. Kate is amazing in “The Reader” that's why she won as Oscar's Best Actress but her acting in this film is also stunning. I love her as April Wheeler than the naked Hannah. She could've won here too. Yeah, in the Golden Globes and she was even shocked. But I feel sad for Leo. Why did they shun him for Best Actor? Oh my God, this is Leo's most challenging role since “The Aviator”. Look at him during their dustup. Wow!!!! Without them the film is a failure. Kathy Bates also has a supporting role in the film. Hey, she is also a cast in “Titanic”. What a sad reunion! Michael Shannon who plays the mental son of Bates is dramatic as well but I don't know him at all.

I watched Titanic like a million times already. I don't know if I can watch Revolutionary Road again. I am still recommending this film because it's really worth watching, Thanks to the splendid duo of Leo and Kate. My only advice is to watch a romantic-comedy film after watching this to ease some sadness in your heart caused by the film. How about watching Titanic again??? Hmmm....
