NOT MY GAME

What are the things that kids and young adults usually do in front of the computer? Well, based from what I've seen everyday in an Internet cafe they are mostly chewing the fat with a webcam to a foreigner, grinning while logging in to friendster , facebook , multiply or even guys4men and most of all they are shouting like a maniac while playing these deadly online games. I almost had a heart attack one time when I was surfing inside a cafe and then these group of kids were vociferating like there's a sudden alien attack in that cafe. Goodness gracious!!! This movie Gamer won't give you a heart attack though but I guess you will just yell for watching a very insipid action movie.
FILM PREMISE: Kable is one of the death-row jailbirds unwilling to play a shooting game while being controlled by a stripling who has achieved celebrity by getting Kable through more levels than any other inmate has before. This happens in the future and the deadly broadcast is the biggest craze around the world. Meanwhile Kable's wife is basically a pleasance simulation in the Sims game, manipulated by a fat guy at home and walking around in booty shorts and a series of wigs. The man behind this haywire sensation is Ken Castle, a billionaire who has framed Kable and doesn't actually plan to award him his freedom, as promised, after beating 30 levels of the game.
If you're familiar with the movie Crank starring Jason Statham, then you'll have a slightest idea what you're goin' to witness in Gamer. This is the third project of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor and they are somewhat successful for creating a fanbase that digs this type of hyperkinetic film making. Crank 1 & 2 are really enjoyable but Gamer is just forgettable to me. This movie has a target audience: video game lovers! If you are one of the millions who spends overnight playing DOTA ,Counter Strike, Halo, The Sims, Team Fortress, World of Warcraft, and other virtual online games, then you will instantly acknowledge when Gamer starts its first act of violence and of of course those flashy colors on your screen. Don't forget the innuendo of sex. Gamer is all about that. Being a non-player of these video games, the movie for me is really sick. There's no story at all to love here. It is just a movie about ergodic and roughshod mass murder. There are plenty of crass words present in every sentence of the script. The Crank duo are lost this time. I feel cheated watching a mirthless movie like this. This movie actually reminds me of Death Race from last year.
For the first time, Gerard Butler is lifeless in a movie. I'm pretty sure he took this only for a damn paycheck. He is uninspired most of the time. He is just there reading the script and shooting bullets everywhere. Of course, I do not expect him to deliver an award winning acting for a movie like this but I just do not see a Gerard Butler I've known. His masculinity is perfect for Kable but I cannot connect with his character. I think Michael C. Hall steals this movie from Butler. His musical number is quiet fun when he lip-synchs to Sammy Davis Jr.'s rendition of "I've Got You Under My Skin". I just feel deplorable for Kyra Sedgwick, Allison Lohman and John Lequizamo for playing unmemorable characters. Milo Ventimiglia has a humiliating cameo role by the way.
Gamer is a mindless action-packed movie. If you're into this nonmeaningful gorefest then good for you! Rush to the theater this instant coz you will salivate watching the endless shootouts and explosions. If you dig these virulent videogames, I guess you'll have fun the whole time. If you're looking for a movie which offers pleasing amusement with a heart , this is not what you want to see and save your dough this time. Gamer has good premise actually but it's just not my cup of tea.
