GROWLING TEARS

Finally, a film from Clint Eastwood is giving me goose bumps accompanied with tears every time I ponder about it. For the first time, I bought his illusion. Gran Torino may be snubbed by the Academy but Jishcand is considering this as one of his Top 10 Films of 2008. Next Monday is the day we've been waiting for because it's the OSCARS. I wanna cry now just the way I bawl after watching this elegiac film because this film did not received a single nod. Being shunned by them is truly wrong. Ride with the Gran Torino and you'll be surprised that Eastwood has still some nice chops to share despite of his age.

Walt Kowalski, a disgruntled Korean War veteran living on his ain in a once-albescent vicinity which has slowly changed into a cultural granary .He is a widower, grumpy, tough-,minded, borderline-hateful, unhappy old man who can't get along with either his kids or his neighbors. For the racist Walt, it's just hard on him seeing other colored race, and when concerted with his cold kinship with his two adult sons, it makes him a lonely and dysphoric old man. His prize possession is a 1973 Gran Torino he keeps in cherry condition. Walt's life lightens a little, however, when he befriends two young Asian kids Thao and Sue who move in next door with their extended family. This far-fetched relationship softens Walt , but when an Asian street gangsters starts chivying the family, he proves that he's still got the licence to kill. Dirty Harry is really back!

One of the most surprising things about "Gran Torino" is how funny it is (some parts), and viewers will no doubt find themselves breaking into more and more incredulous belly laughs as Walt screeches yet another unexpected zinger. Eastwood's character is definitely unforgettable. Most of Eastwood's films are nostalgic and this one is still has the sadness formula. The only difference is that you will cry because of joyousness. This has the best ending I've ever seen in a while. It left me crying for 10 minutes.

Gran Torino is about racism. I thought that it may provoke some race but I really do think that Eastwood depicts what is real in America. It's unpredicted to like Walt because he is a racist. However, you'll be surprised that he is kinda charming when he starts to mellow. Mid part, you'll start to wonder if the film is really going the right way because the momentum subsides, but just wait for the explosive climax. The drama is unbelievably moving and the relationship between Walt and Thao is deeply haunting. Portraying Walt is Eastwood's best performance to date. I'm wondering why they shunned him. Look at the way he growls and bombs those F-words and earsplitting vituperations. Oh yeah, I must warn you if you're not into swearing and hearing the forbidden 4-letter word, just cover your ears for a while. For me, it's amazing how Eastwood says those words. Funny indeed. I really love the Vietnamese guy named Thao. Bee Vang who plays the character won't grab future awards in his role but he is really good. His acting shines at least and he is cuddly cute. Super cute. Ahney Her who plays Sue as Thao's sister has a very good chemistry with Eastwood too. I must say that the Asian gangsters are disturbing to watch.

Gran Torino has a special message to cerebrate. The film has a place in my heart. I will never forget this chef-d'oeuvre (almost) from Clint. By the way, this will be his last film as an actor. A very grand exit actually!
