EXCELLENT EVENING

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Last week I watched Claire Danes as a beautiful star who fell from the sky.
Yesterday, stars were named after her in a film I deeply loved called “EVENING”.
Indeed, Ms. Claire Danes is a sparkling star!

I’ve seen most of Claire Danes’ film even the controversial Brokedown Palace. Did you watch it? It was filmed here in the Philippines you know. I don’t know if you’re also familiar with her other films like Stage Beauty. She’s terrific in that too.

Anyway, if she’s enchanting in “Stardust” well she’s marvelous in “Evening”. This is a good project for her coz she really shines. I must say that this cast is a great ensemble.
Imagine Meryl Streep, Vanessa Redgrave, Toni Collette, Hugh Dancy and Glenn Close in one film? Awesome! The other reason why I also watched this is because of the sumptuous masculinity of Patrick Wilson. Who is he? Well he was in The Phantom of the Opera as Raoul and last year he showed us his “whole scorching package” I mean beefcakes from him you know in the award-winning film “Little Children” with Kate Winslet. Please try to rent or buy the DVD so that when you watch “Evening” you’ll know why I am blandishing him.

The story of Evening is about love, friendship, marriage, parenthood and identity crisis.
Actually, the first 20 minutes is dragging. However, there is a reason why the screenplay is loquacious and slow. The film lets the audience be totally emotionally involved with the characters. They got me honestly. Buddy punched my heart precisely. Watch out for him.
You will love his character. Buddy na naman? Iyak na naman ako pag naririnig ko ang word na yan. Hu hu hu….

Warning: this is not your typical family drama film or romantic/dramedy flick. This is a different art film. Almost lachrymose to me but maybe not for everbody. Let me say if you hate palavers then skip this one.Actually, the film is a beautiful painting. I love the shots from start to finish.Watch out for the “Arrival of Ann”, “Stolen Kiss Under The Stars”, Hideaway Romance of Harris & Ann,Evening Saunter, The Plunge, Sunrise Kiss at the Forest,Butterfly & Ann, The Last Bed Scene of Ann and the final scene “The Crying Sea Waves in the Evening”. Actually, I named the painting all by myself. He he . I really love the director’s touch! Of course with the help of the cinematographer. Bravo!!!

Please spare some time for this film.

SPARKLING-SPECTACULAR-SURPRISING!

STARDUST
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Whew! I didn’t expect this film to be astonishing!

I haven’t read the novel yet but I am planning to buy it someday now that that I’ve seen the film. Wow!!! Amazing!!!

I love the screenplay. It’s nifty and sidesplitting.
You know what some of the lines from the “comely falling star” Yvaine played by Claire Danes are really poetic & hypnotic if you let it enter into your ears. Some quotes will tickle the soporific part of your innocence. It’s simply exhilarating. Ms. Danes is a good actress but her role in Stardust is not her golden ticket for Oscars. I hope she will surprise us someday.

Just wait when you reached the part of the flying vessel with the pirates. I was cackling so hard. That idea of the writers is simply superb. Robert de Niro really saved the day. He is awesome! I didn’t expect him to be so amusing. You will love his character as Captain Shakespeare. I enjoyed the part in which he is “doing his thing” to a famous Moulin Rouge music. The audience has a good guffaw there.

Newcomer Charlie Coz who plays Tristan is a good catch. He is a promising British actor. He is quiet good but he’s not that hot for me. If you’ll look closely and stare his eyes, you will see a reflection of a famous British actor too. Well, I think I see Ewan McGregor’s personality in him.

Kudos to Michelle Pfeiffer as the wicked witch Lamia. After hating her in Hairspray for being a racist, this time you will loathe her more. She is perfect but not enough to cajole “thumbs-up choice” for an acting nod. She is just fit to play the role here. Whew! Her make-up can scare kids honestly. I thought I saw Linda Blair’s possessed face in The Exorcist. Oh yeah, I will bet for Best in Make Up.

I love the cinematography. The locations are stunning. It’s like watching Lord of the Rings because of the spectacular views but they didn’t shoot the film in New Zealand. This time they went to Scotland and Iceland. Cool huh?

You can hear nice music too in the film. It’s mellifluous. I am hooked right now to the love theme performed and written by Take That. The song is “Rule The World”.
According to the song….
….You light the skies, up above me
A star, so bright, you blind me, yeah
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t fade away, don’t fade away…
Yeah you and me we can ride on a star
If you stay with me girl
We can rule the world
Yeah you and me we can light up the sky
If you stay by my side
We can rule the world…
I find the lyrics so perfect for the film.

Anyway, if you crave for a kilig-love story then don’t miss this.
If you love comedy the n dig this too.
If you dream the magical universe then you should explore the breathtaking adventures in Stardust.

FIREWORKS ON THE 4TH WEEK OF SURVIVOR CHINA

Wow! May away na naman sa Zhan Hu. May kaaway na naman si Dave at si Sherea pa!
He he he!

THE REWARD CHALLENGE. The Tribes assemble under the night sky on the grounds of Tribal Council, where Jeff Probst explains the rules to the challenge. Two tribe members at a time must work together using giant chopsticks to carry flaming balls across a course. Once across, they must drop the fireball into a wok, igniting a fireworks display. Then, the next two will go for a total of three rounds. Each round, the chopsticks get longer and more difficult to handle. The first tribe to get all three fireballs into the woks wins Reward. The Reward is a visit from a fisherman and his family, who will give the tribe a lesson in traditional Chinese fishing. The fisherman will also bring spices and vegetables to prepare a meal for the tribe. In addition, the winning tribe will kidnap one person from the losing tribe until the next Immunity Challenge.

Jean-Robert surprised his tribe by revealing that he spoke Mandarin, which he learned as a child while spending a few years in Taiwan and served as a translator between the fisherman's family and the other contestants. Dave was kidnapped by Fei Long and chose to give the Hidden Immunity Idol clue to Todd after Todd agreed to return the favor should he be kidnapped.

Immunity Challenge: Warrior’s Duel
The Survivors assemble for the Immunity Challenge, where Jeff Probst explains that they will be dressed in traditional Chinese armor while squaring off in a gladiator arena. Each tribe has a number of porcelain vases. Facing off two-against-two, the castaways must hurl meteor hammers in an attempt to break the other tribe’s vases. The tribe that breaks the most vases in three rounds wins Immunity and is safe from Tribal Council.
Panalo uli ang Fei LONG!

After returning to Zhan Hu camp, Dave noticed that his tribe's outlook toward him had changed and tried to persuade his tribemates that his attitude had changed. Sherea overheard Erik, Frosti, Jaime, and Peih-Gee discussing her lack of work and realized that she was in chopping block. Eventually, the four other members of Zhan Hu decided that Dave's officious attitude was too much, and he was voted out 5-1.

Bye Bye Bye Bartender Dave!!!

THE HILLS HAVE EYES VS 28 WEEKS LATER

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

In the first film I was really exhausted and scared.
It was one of the most gruesome and bloody films I’ve ever seen.
I like the original coz it was really good.

Then they made a sequel.

What can I say? It’s still scary but not that much.
It’s still bloody and gory but less.
The antagonists are still vexatious.
Makes you want to butcher their heads into ten pieces!
Shot their fuckin body a hundred bullets you know!
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I was just amazed coz the lead star is a perfect dead ringer for Amber Brkich, the winner of Survivor All Stars and Wife of Rob Mariano. They placed 2nd in TAR7.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I think the producers intended to name the lead actress as Amber too coz of the 90% resemblance. I was really asking myself when I was watching if this actress is really Amber. I was punchy. When the movie ended I really read the end credits and I wasn’t that surprised not see the name of Amber Brkich. He he he…

Jessica Stroup is her name. She is really beautiful. I can’t wait to see her star in another movie. I think she is promising. She is sexy too.

Am I recommending this?
If you have nothing to do you may rent the video.
Well, the Halloween is coming. This movie is perfect for a “barkada spooky night”!

28 weeks later
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

In “28 days later” the first movie, oh man it was really scary! I think I had nightmares for nights after watching it.

Then “after 28 weeks later”, oh man it was still scary! I really had nightmares for weeks after watching it.

Just kidding of course I didn’t have nightmares. I am not a scared y-cat.

In the sequel, I must say that the bloody scenes are more intense.
It’s not that scary anymore coz the next scenes are becoming more predictable.

Parang nanawa ka na sa mga “zombies”. You know that there are still hungry zombies running around & wanting to eat a live human flesh. When you think about it? Yeah it still spooky!
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The actors are remarkable by the way.
Their agony of trying to stay alive is really distressing.
Great acting.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Am I recommending this too?
Definitely! If you like the first one then don’t miss this.
This movie is really perfect for the Halloween!

So which movie is better???

I think I am recommending both if you have nothing to do.
Being a well-made film? It’s 28 Weeks Later!

BLOODY 3RD WEEK IN CHINA!!!

Ok Not so bloody but too physical!

It’s brawn this time!

James once again proved to everyone that he is the strongest castaway in the game.
Always the last man standing!
He was enigmatic these past 2 episodes but this week he finally revealed his true color.
He is black. I mean he has dark conniving plans. I don’t like him anymore.
I thought he is likable.

When Fei Long lost at the Reward Challenge, it was a physical game that involves wrestling. After 3 consecutive wins, they finally bowed out to Zhan Hu. The ZH girls really fought hard to win the comfort pillows, blanket and tarp. Amazing win!

Leslie was kidnapped and she gave the clues to the HII to Jamie as her way of gratitude.

Back at FL camp when Jean Robert & James were taking a bath at the lake, Courtney & Todd heard their confabulation coz they were talking so loud. The latter 2 who were collecting husks took the time & eavesdrop everything. Courtney was shocked about what she heard. She was really on the chopping block. She was worried but took it in a funny way.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
During the immunity challenge, I have no idea why on earth they let the weak Courtney to start the game in FL. It was really funny and pathetic how she tried to chop the bamboo locks. ZH really zoomed their way by finishing the task so quickly The ZH tribe already started the puzzle but Courtney was still struggling. With the help of Jean-Robert’s motivation she finished it but she was exhausted. Amanda, Aaron & James finished the task in a heartbeat but the ZH tribe had finished the game and they won their 1st immunity challenge.
FL tribe was going to send home one member from their tribe.

Who was booted out?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Not Courtney! Shocking right?
Our dear sister Leslie was sent home coz of her cynical trust. Aaron thought that she wasn’t a loyal member when she expressed her Christian feelings to Zhan Hu. She told everybody that there were 3 Christians at the other tribe that’s why everybody was worried if the merge comes she might switch alliance. Since she was also weak, she received 6 votes and her fire was snuffed out.

A RUN TO REMEMBER IN DECEMBER

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This is an independent coming-of-age film. I didn’t know why my brother from Hogwarts “Harry Potter” aka Daniel Radcliffe accepted this. I didn’t like the screenplay of December Boys but I didn’t hate it at all. It’s not common for me but there’s zilch to brag. I was enduring not to have forty-winks while watching this adaptation by Rod Hardy.

There were only 10 of us in Megamall that afternoon. I watched it on the 1st day and 2nd screening .I didn’t hear any chortles from the other 9.
I didn’t hear any sobs too. Duh… I was really anticipating to shed tears . I even prepared my hanky
I thought I heard some snoring. He he he.
I bet that guy was bored.

I wasn’t bored actually coz I was amazed with the attractive and gorgeous cinematography of the film. The scenes are exhilarating in Kangaroo Island and Adelaide, Australia. The aerial shots are amazing. So beautiful and haunting! I love the carved rocks and the sunset scenes. It’s like a magical hideaway when you are there..

Anyway, the performances are believable. Despite the palpable huge star billing of Daniel Radcliffe at the top of the cast list, this film is really about a young boy named Misty played by Lee Cormie. Daniel as Maps is only a supporting actor in the story. Let’s face it do you think people will queue into the theatres and watch this movie “December Boys” starring Lee Cormie?
Who the fuck is he?
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Girls! Expect some skin from Daniel. He will tickle your fantasy but he didn’t do The Full Monty and Equus. “Maps” is a wild young man and so is Radcliffe!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The dialogue in this film is in a strong Australian accent. That’s why Radcliffe is not-so- Harry Potter here with his Aussie tongue. I heard he had to practice the accent 6 months prior to filming. Honestly, I hardly understood their confabulations.
I gotta buy the DVD soon and scrutinize the subtitles.

By the way, I love the songs they used as background music. Cool!

Even though I wasn’t that pleased with the story, I enjoyed the camaraderie of the four orphans named Maps, Spark, Spits and Misty.
“All for One! One for All!
DECEMBER BOYS!!!! “

If you’re an enormous Harry Potter fan please don’t expect magic.
Maybe this film will make you soporific.
I was expecting this to be more dramatic.
Instead I learned that Radcliffe is only the magic trick.
To titillate all the teen-girls and make them “kilig”.

LUCKY ERIC BANA MY DUDE!!!

LUCKY YOU!!!!

Wow!!! I love this film!!!

I didn’t expect this to be good!

The US Critics really shunned this film from Curtis Hanson (LA Confidential & 8 Mile) so I decided not to watch this on the big screen and opted to wait for the release of the DVD. Luckily, it is available already.

I bought the video last week and I watched it yesterday without any high expectations. Surprisingly, I was astounded how beautiful the script was!

This is fuckin’ extraordinary. I love the way they picture life and gambling.
The movie is really sad when you think about it. If you’re a fuckin’ loner but have so many concerned friends. Well, this is your movie. This is my movie too. Am I a loner?
Ha ha ha!

I love Eric Bana so much!!
He is very lovable!!!!

He was promising in Black Hawk Down.
He was majestic in Troy.
He was incredible in Hulk
He was mesmerizing in Munich.
He never failed me again this time.
Lucky YOU Mr. Bana.
I am your #1 fan.

Hey, I must not forget “my sweet Drew Barrymoore”. The last film that I fell in love with her was in Ever After. This time? Oh my God, she’s a goddess! Sweet sweet smile.
A very charming performance from Drew! You gotta love her.

Actually, I was so “kilig” watching Eric & Drew together. There is a gambling chemistry just like the King & Queen of Hearts.
LUCKY ERIC !!!
SWEET DREW !!!!

By the way, the film is all about POKER. Honestly, I have no idea how to play it.
Thanks to Casino Royale coz that film taught me how to play this tricky game but not enough to cajole me to spend endless nights in a casino. No way!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

They also tackle some family issues and honestly it ripped my heart. It’s really sad to see the conflict between the stuck up father and the prodigal son. I think what is hidden in those cards with spades and clubs squabbling with these devious diamonds is really a lucky heart sailing to the river of forgiveness. Deep huh???

Anyway, I love the magnificent cinematography of Las Vegas. Very tempting and I must say that the sight is an ultimate Shangri-la to dawdle and squander all your dough all through the night.
Let’s go to Vegas now!

I truly madly deeply love this film because of the remarkable lines and quotes.
Believe me. It’s amazing to hear and ponder the meaning of those deep words.

Definitely, another film to treasure!
