UMBRELLA
Mandy Moore's version

Wow I just recently heard her version of Rihanna's song.
She is amazing!
Mandy is really awesome.
You can really feel the emotion and the sincerity of the lyrics.

I love her version so much.
Rihanna is still the original but Mandy made a good rendition!!!

I love you Mandy!!!

COLD BLADES

BLADES OF GLORY

The first time I saw the trailer of Blades of Glory last March I was laughing so hard. I told myself that time I gotta watch this flick. Pero ilang months na lumipas di pa rin showing sa Pinas.Ano ba yan? Bakit ganun? #1 movie sa US pa naman ito. Naiinip na ako kasi April sa US tapos July na wala pa rin. Ayoko naming panoorin sa bootleg DVD dahil super labo at saka magagalit si Papa Edu. So wait pa rin ako. Buti na lang naawa ang SM Cinemas at pinalabas nila exclusive lang sa mga malls nila last August. May premiere pa nga eh sa MOA. Ambait nga ng Getzmo kasi nanalo pa ako ng tickets. Sad to say I wasn’t able to use ‘em coz night shift job ko. Sasayaw pa ako sa dilim.Joke!

Lately I was able to squeeze in my time to watch the blades of Wil & Jon. So what’s my verdict?

It was just fine. Actually, lahat ng highlights nasa trailer na. Given na lahat. So sad.
Pero kahit napanood ko na sa trailer, nakakatawa pa rin ang mga scenes ng dalawa.
I must say that the first skating presentation as in comeback performance nila. Pamatay yun! Hanep ang interpretation nila sa isang famous Aerosmith song. Ha ha ha!!!

Actually, agaw eksena dito si Will. Yun kasi style niya sa lahat ng movies niya. Then si Jon Heder kung ano siya sa Napoleon Dynamite ganun din dito. Boring but funny.

Well, may mga fight scenes with the antagonists pero super-nincompoop ang dating lalo na yung last part. Ewan. What the hell?

Anyway, pag fan ka ni Will & Jon. Watch this. Pag hindi naman watch mo na lang ang DVD. Out na kasi sa US last Aug. 28.
If you love figure skating so much, wag mo palampasin ito. May pinakita silang dangerous act na halos himatayin ako sa kaba. Ha ha ha!

I think mas magada pa manood ng skating competitions sa MOA o sa Megamall.
Pero cool pa rin naman ito. Konti lang.
Enjoy.

THE GOOD GERMAN

The Lives of Others

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Last February, a film from Germany won as Best Foreign Language Film at the Annual Oscar Awards. “The Lives of Others” beat Mexico’s Pan’s Labyrinth. I really thought that the latter was the frontrunner coz it was the most popular and it received multiple nominations. Surprisingly, the poignant film from Germany won!

I don’t know if this film will be released here in the Philipines on the big screen. My only bet is the CineEuropa soon. Good news coz the DVD is already available in the US. I wanna thank my lover for giving me a copy.

So…deserving as the Oscar winner???? YES! For me, The Lives of Others is one of the greatest films ever made. I truly, madly, deeply love this film!

This picture reminds me of Amelie from France. They both have excellent original screenplay and remarkable photography. I mean stylized look. Have you seen this French film? It is highly recommended!!! Amelie is my all-time Best Foreign Language Film. Still #1 in my heart. I fell in love with Audrey Tautou honestly. ***blush***

There were no bodacious visual effects in The Lives of Others.
Just expect a moving story, great acting & pristine direction.

The Lives of Others takes place in a world of systematic terror and cold paranoia just before the 1989 fall of Berlin Wall. This thriller drama involves the monitoring of the cultural scene of East Berlin by agents of the Stasi, the secret police.

Honestly this film is not for everybody. This is an “art film”.
To all popcorn-flick lovers, you may watch but prepare your pillow.
You may catch 40-winks. I admit that in the first 8 minutes I was perplexed.
“What is this? Should I continue this film?” I was bored. But just wait for at least 10 minutes coz a spine-chilling scene is about to start.

If you are open-minded to loquacious films then don’t miss this.

Actually, the main character Weisler portrayed by the late Ulrich Mühe is hushed. I heard that he died last July 2007 due to stomach cancer. So melancholy... Anyway, in the film he was acting quietly but you can feel his key performance. He was a genius when it comes to functionary mask. His eyes and his lips were so enigmatic. Especially the last scene coz I shed a tear and clapped loudly in my living room. He was a good actor. He won as Best Actor in Germany and some European Film Festivals.

This film teaches us about human faith. By the way, watching the lives of others is sometimes helpful.

The Cutest Sleuth In Town

NANCY DREW

Photobucket

She could be the teen female version of Robert Langdon or Sophie Neveu.
She could be Hermione as well.
She could be the teen Catherine Willows from CSI Las Vegas.
She could be the teen Stella Bonasera from CSI New York.

Meet the cutest sleuth in town!!!! My new crush: NANCY DREW!
I love her!!!

Honestly, the trailer isn’t that promising. This film received mixed reviews in the US. There was a weak-word-of-mouth there. Why did I watch this? Coz I am fascinated with the Nancy Drew mystery novels and I love Emma Roberts. She was in Aquamarine as Jojo’s Bestfriend. Well, of course she is Julia Robert’s niece too. Definitely, she’s a pretty woman as well.

This film is not for everybody. Adventurous youngsters will love this absolutely!
Some teens may love this. Some popcorn-flick lovers will despise this… maybe.
I am in my 20’s now but I love this film. There’s something here that tickles my heart.

I won’t spoil the story but this is all about crime-solving mystery done in a cute girlish way. You know pa-tweetums. Because that’s Nancy Drew! There are some mild violence and tolerable explosion. Very cute! Please bear with the director’s subtle touch.

I was astonished to see a cameo role from a “Die Hard Actor”. Yeah, Bruce Willis is here. That was a cute scene from him. I was giggling. “She’s All That” Girl is here too. I missed Rachael Leigh Cook so much. Even though she’s playing a mother role you could still notice a mesmerizing pulchritude in her. By the way, watch out also for this kid who will be playing Ace Ventura Jr. soon. Jim Carrey’s rejected sequel. He is the porky Corky. I find him a bit vexatious on the big screen. Just my 2 cents.

Lastly, the OST saved the film. I love the songs being played as background music such as Come To California by Matthew Sweet, Perfect Misfit by Liz Phair, Pretty Much Amazing by Joanna, Looking For Clues by Katie Melua, Hey Nancy Drew by Chris Price, Dare by Gorillaz and Like A Star by Corinne Bailey Rae. I was wondering coz Emma Roberts is a chanteuse but she didn’t contribute a song in her launching film.
She has a song in Aquamarine OST and I like it.

Anyway, I hope you’ll be a part of Nancy Drew’s sleuthing. I joined with her and I enjoyed the cute adventure.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 ALBUM

Cool

I’ve been listening to the new album for the nth time now. I love it!!!
Cool album!
If the first one is refreshing?
This one is really cool!!!

There are 11 tracks which were also featured in the movie-musical except the last track.

What Time is it? – This is one is a Bang!!!! It’s really frivolous and hot on the dance floor! Great track from the whole cast. Great welcome song!
WATCH THE VIDEO
Fabulous – a very cute song from Sharpay & Ryan. Yeah, so fabulous. The intro though sounds like Part of Your World from A Little Mermaid.
Work This Out – this is one of my fav coz it’s groovy and I love the urban hook.
You are the music in Me – A lovesong from Troy & Gabriella. It’s beautiful especially on the last part.WATCH THE VIDEO
I don’t Dance – This is ok for me but Chad & Ryan were tryin’ to imitate Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake. It’s still a cool song.
You are the music in me – This one is Sharpay’s version. It’s a joke but you will love her coz she’s funny. Troy is also here in his awkward voice. Funny track.
Gotta Go My Own way – One of the best songs from the album too. It’s poignant and Vanessa Hudgens can really sing with soul. Though the melody sounds like a song from Jesse Mccartney.
Bet On It- My fav track coz it’s unique. It shows the future of Zac Efron. He could be a next big pop star.
Everyday – This one reminds me of Breaking Free from the 1st album and Happy Days from Sister Act 2. Yeah… rip-off? I don’t know. But I still love this song coz it’s really catchy.WATCH THE VIDEO
All For One – Another great track that features the whole cast. This one also reminds me of We’re All In this Together .It still gave me a zesty splash.
Humuhumunukunukukuapua’a- This is the bonus track from Ryan & Sharpay.
A very cute song for the summer. Hawaiian song to dance. I like it too.

Well, I love this 2nd and I’m still not sick & tired listening to the songs just like the 1st album. What are you waiting for??? Buy the album now!!!!

THE ULTIMATE RACE

THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM

I’ve been following JB’s life ever since his identity was revealed and became supremacy afterwards. Nope, not James Bond but America’s very own Jason Bourne!

After watching “probably the worst “3rd” of the summer” last week, I am referring to Rush Hour 3 of course; I was so relieved that I ended my “3rd quest” with an enormous magnificent bang!!! Thanks to “The Bourne Ultimatum”! One of the most enjoyable & satisfying films of the summer. Just my 2 cents. Ok, it is the best film of 2007 during “Rainy season” here in RP.

I’m still wondering if they used the Filipino Martial Arts in the film. The fight scenes are comparable to Die Hard 4 where our very own M.A. was used, proud to say yes our very own stunts! I just can’t stop commending the fight scenes. So gripping! Great execution from the Talented Mr. Ripley I mean Damon.

Honestly, it’s like watching The Amazing Race again. The camera shots are similar to my fav reality show. That’s why I enjoyed this so much. Of course, JB was traveling from one country to another. Taxi here, bus there, train here, plane there etc…
I love his ultimate race!

Of course, thanks to Julia Stiles. I really like her. She’s different. She ain’t that pulchritudinous but there is something in her. Unfathomable beauty???

Well, please catch this ultimate film. I guarantee that you won’t leave your seat even if nature calls. Gosh, I endured my “pee pain”. Is it the right term? LOL !

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

THE COLOR & WEIGHT OF MUSIC

What is the color of music?

What is the weight of music?

The answers are in Hairspray!

I suggest that you should watch this amazing stage play adaptation of the Tony Award-winning 2002 Broadway musical of the same name. This is now included in my list as one the best and most entertaining movie adaptation of a musical. I also love the message of the film. If you enjoyed Chicago & Rent then Hairspray is your next Broadway stop!

Honestly, I wasn’t familiar with the songs from the musicall before watching it here on its first day showing. So I was clueless about Hairspray. The film opened with a beautiful & unforgettable song titled “Good Morning Baltimore”. I instantly love it coz Tracy the pleasantly plump girl is really gorgeous when she is dancing & singing. I almost forgot that she is kinda overweight. Nikki Blonsky is really perfect in her role. I read that she was the lucky winner during the audition. Good for her! She is the main character in the film and she sang most of the songs. She is cute! I just love her rendition of I Can Hear the Bells.

Intermittently, I was hypnotized with the songs and the dance choreography.
Wow! The songs are awesome. Very catchy & makes you wanna dance with them.
They are groovy and tasty.

Watch out for songs like “The Nicest Kids In Town” ,”It Takes Two”, “Ladies’ Choice” & “Without Love” coz Zac Efron from High School Musical is also here as Link. I didn’t even recognize him maybe he is cuter when he is blonde. He is sporting raven hair here. They made him like Elvis Presley. By the way, James Marden you know Cylclops from X-men can really sing and shake his bon-bon too! Watch out ladies!

I was surprised to see an amazing ensemble. John Travolta portrays a mother role and he did it so well. Michelle Pfeiffer was an amazing antagonist as well as a racist. Both starred in Grease 1 & 2 respectively. Greasy huh? Queen Latifa brought the house down too as Motormouth Mabel. Amanda Bynes is such a cutie bitchy teen. Christoper Walken filled some humor too.

I really wish that they will show the sing-along version of this film here coz I heard that in the US they are showing it so that the audience can interact with the film. It will be an amazing experience I guess. Definitely I will watch it again!

It’s palpable that I really love this film. I know you will enjoy this too. By the way, don’t abscond during the end credits coz you’ll hear 3 new songs not featured in the film. I look forward that “Come So Far (Got So far To Go)” will be nominated for Best Original Song in the Golden Globe & Oscar next year and hopefully will win the award. Well, I am optimistic that this film will rake nods from left to right. Let’s see.

Moreover, the art direction and costume design of the 60’s is really believable.

Adam Shankman is the director and also the choreographer and he did awesome just like his previous family flicks like A Walk To Remember & The Pacifier.

Run and tell that HAIRSPRAY is the most magical color of music and you can’t stop the beat!!!!!
