THE BUTLER JOB

In every movie there is always a hero and a villain but sometimes villains don't exist at all. In Law Abiding Citizen, the movie is all about good versus evil but there's a huge interrogation mark here!!! I still can't figure it out who's the real protagonist and who's the despicable villain in the movie. They leave this quandary to the moviegoers. Law Abiding Citizen is ridiculously amazing. It is enjoyable yet excruciating all throughout . The upshot of this concoction of emotions is quiet lethal to popcorn-flick-abiding citizens.
FILM PREMISE: 10 years ago, Clyde Shelton watched his own family being murdered in his home during an intrusion. The two murderers got caught but only one was sentenced to death. This happened with Nick Rice the district attorney made the plea deal for the other perpetrator. Clyde was really disappointed. In present time, the day of execution has come but the death row victim does not peacefully die, rather a tragic event happens and he suffers. Later on, when they discover the other man involved in the murder has turned up dead they quickly turn to Clyde as the main suspect. Clyde surrenders easily but he makes deals with Nick Rice for some confessions. However, 300 Spartans with delectable abs show up to flirt with the district attorney. Will he make a deal with them?
There are two consequential characters to watch out here: Clyde Shelton played by Butler and Nick Rice played by Jamie Foxx. As what I've mentioned above, it's up to the viewers who's the hero and who's the villain for them. Honestly, my heart goes to Shelton. Right from the outset, the story aims for the audience to love him even if he's wreaking havoc to the whole city. It is the first time that I've seen a movie in which 2 characters have vague personalities and it's really hard to place your bet!. Shelton is our protagonist/antagonist while Rice is our antagonist/protagonist. That's my perception based on what I feel with the characters. Vengeance is what the movie truly shows. The movie successfully depicts the cruelty of revenge. It may demoralize some hearts but for entertainment the violence is impressive. The movie however clearly reveals that the justice system in the US sucks. I think it's not new anymore. Here in our country the law is also smutty. The movie quietly fails on its content of believability though. They make Shelton like Superman. By the way, kudos to the writer for making me aflutter in the entire movie. The enigma about Shelton is really cracking and it's not predictable at all!
Good twist! It's really baffling.
The director of “The Italian Job” is back!!! F. Gary Gray is intelligibly one of the most gifted auteurs of this coevals. Yeah, the script is messy but he makes it work!!! The action sequences are mind-boggling. The explosions are outlandish. If you've enjoyed Gray's previous high-octane thriller, this one won't disappoint you. The sizzling war in this movie is pictured beautifully. I totally love the cinematography. The aerial views of Philadelphia is exhilarating.
Gerard Butler for me is really watchable. He is not good in showing real emotions but he's good in showing good seductions. Ha ha ha! Though his nude scene is brief. Oh man! The man who growls in 300 is back to titillate screen once again for 5 seconds. Ladies and some guys, don't blink! Watch out for the sexiest surrender ever. It's not just about his nakedness but Butler has done a persuasive job this time. Jamie Foxx goes over the top for me. He is still bearable as the heartless lawyer but I don't like him here. He is really good in that Tom Cruise movie Collateral. Remember Viola Davis? She appears in “Doubt” for merely 10 minutes and her performance in that movie is applauded by the Academy. In this movie, she also visible for less that 10 minutes but she steals the limelight! This woman is so effective! Viola, hands down to you!!!
Law Abiding Citizen is a nail-biting gory revenge movie. Warning: it is quiet violent for the kids. The movie makes you sad in the end. I don't wanna spoil the ending but it's just weird. I wanna feel good but there's something missing. I want revenge too. This movie is made not to ridicule the justice system but I guess it serves as an eye-opener.
