MONSTERRIFIC CINEMA EXPERIENCE

CLOVERFIELD

Wow!!! As in wow a million times!!!!

I was intrigued when I first saw the trailer of this untitled JJ Abrams project last year.
When it opened at #1 in the US recently with a massive debut, I just couldn't wait to watch this film.
I always see the huge billboard of Cloverfield near the Boni-MRT Station coz I work near that place.
I don't know if you also notice that there is a hidden image in the poster. It's quite creepy honestly. The monster is facing the headless Statue of Liberty like it's “ready to attack” gesture .Well, it's a clandestine effect they made with the clouds. Look closer to the clouds coz the monster is there!!!

CLICK HERE TO SEE THE MONSTER

Let's talk about the movie! I must say that this is a good experiment from JJ. I love this film!
I already heard some buzz that this film will make you dizzy. I really prepared myself. Nope I didn't drink an anti-dizzy tablet instead I just expect the anticipated shaky camera work

Photobucket

The experience is amazing. I was thrilled when the head of Liberty was thrown to the streets of Manhattan. This is it!!! The kick off of an intense and engaging monsteriffic ride!

Photobucket

Is there a story here? I think so and it's a love story too. The monster is just an extra but it plays a huge part. I was deeply attached with the main characters. I see myself in Rob (Michael Stahl-David). Naks!!!! Well, he is really good-lookin' and a natural actor. Beth (Odette Yustman) is simply pretty and hot. I love watching them. The reason why I like them is that they are not familiar actors and you get this feeling that “ hey this is happening...it's F***** real!” effect. It's like a documentary actually just like The Blair Witch Project”. Oh yeah, the only difference is that we saw the live monster here and we didn't see the witch in Blair. Cloverfield is like watching Godzilla and the 9/11 WTC attack and of course Blair Witch style altogether.

Photobucket

I don't know if I'm goin to laugh at people's reaction about this film. I'll share some comments from lovebirds sitting behind me : Ano ba yan? Nahihilo na ako” said the girl after 20 minutes in the cinema. That time I was still hunky-dory in the front row. Yeah, I love watching in the front row with popcorn!
So I think it's advisable not to sit in near the screen if you're nauseating. You know what they left the cinema in the middle. Too bad. When the end credits started rolling, I went to the john immediately to drain my pipe, I was shocked to hear that even men were affected too. I heard a teenager talking to his friend” P**** i** pare sumakit ulo ko doon! Oo nga parang rollercoaster!, the other one replied. These reactions from them are just amazing. It means that Cloverfield is a phenomenon for me.

Photobucket

SPOILERS Below:

Photobucket

I love the Brooklyn Bridge attack coz it's so intense. The subway tunnel scene with the small monsters is really frightening. The Time Warner Center apartment scene is just horrific. The Central Park scenes at the end are just gripping and engaging. I was screaming silently to be honest.. Of course kudos the people who created this monster.

Wanna see the monster? click here!

Photobucket

The only weakness in the film is that they didn't elaborate the origin of the monster that much. Actually, there are clues in the script. Just listen carefully especially at the end of the credits coz you'll hear a “cry for help” from one major character. Hint: prequel or sequel? After the explosion in the bridge at Central Park, the final scene returned to a footage in Coney Island around April. The attack happened on May 22-23.In that scene you will see an object falling from the sky into the ocean. So I think the monster is an alien. Well, let's just wait for the prequel or the sequel for the added explanation.
Watching this film twice made me see and hear the clues. Just don't close your eyes and open your ears all the time.

Photobucket

Highly recommended to all amusement ride fanatics.
Don't tell me I didn't warn you about the Cloverfield side-effects!
Good luck!

A NOT SO LACHRYMOSE CHANCE FOR ME

One More Chance

415px-omcfinalposter3

Yeah, ang One More Change ang tumabo sa takilya last year!
Sabi P152.7M ang kinita nito.Laki ano?
Bakit?
I have a friend who loves this movie kaya pinahiram niya ako ng DVD nito.
Ano raw ba masasabi ko?

Nagustuhan ko ba?
Well, ambivalent ako.

The Good:

beajohnlloyd

Wow as in wow talaga! Di nga ako fan di ba pero to the highest level ang pagkabilib ko sa kanya. Gusto ko yung break up scene nila sa basement parking. For Best Actress? Definitely!!!

one+more+chance+poster+0

The BAD:

Duh... mega corny tuloy.

Last, ang ending eh super predictable.

The story is really common. Ang walang kamatayang break-up, cry cry cry at balikan to death scenario.
Congrats sa Star Cinema for a successful film with a modest budget.

MY TEAM WAS 2ND BUT STILL STRONG!!!!

LEG 10 -BUDAPEST

It was a leg boring yet exciting race last Thursday.

First clue:
Teams must now take a train and head to Budapest, the capital city of Hungary. Their next clue is at the Keleti Train Station.

Rov & Marc purchased a direct train to Budapest leaving at 7:30am.
The other teams also did the same except the gay buddies from Singapore I mean gym buddies.
Adrienne & Colleen searched online and found an early train leaving at 5am connecting Vienna first.
To their surprise, no one else discovers the existence of the earlier train.

I love this comment from Rovilson when they found out that A&C were missing in the station that they caught an early train: "They are so far ahead, they are in Season 3 now,"

Luckily, the remaining four teams manage to get on board the 7.30am train and travel 443km to Hungary.

NEXT CLUE:
make way to Batthyany Square, located across from the Hungarian Parliament Building. The square is named after Lajos Batthyany, the first Prime Minister of Hungary.
At the marker, the next clue points teams towards their car and teams must drive to Magyar Farm, located 20km outside Budapest.

Leading team was from Singapore.

The others teams arrived now. Paula & Vanessa was shocked to see a manual car. She doesn't like driving it manually.

DETOUR.
Teams must pick either Pitch or Pull. In Pitch, teams must load a donkey cart full of hay using a pitch fork. They must then deliver it to a farmer for their next clue. In Pull, teams must pick a goat and milk 200ml of fresh milk from it, before receiving their next clue.

Photobucket

The gay buddies Imean the gym buddies did the Pitch. Still in 1st place.

The other teams arrived later
Ann & Diane picked Pull first but had a hard time milking the goat.
Next to arrive was Paula & Tasha and chose Pitch.
To my surprise Rov & Marc just arrived.
They are in 4th place now. I was nervous that day watching them behind the pack.

Due to their vehicular problems, the last to get to the farm were Pamela and Vanessa. They chose Pitch.

NEXT CLUE:
Teams must drive themselves to the Fun Extreme Canopy, which specializes in Flying Fox trails. In this roadblock, one team member must complete the multiple sections of the Flying Fox course, and add up the numbers located at each location. Getting the correct total of 1,000 will award the team with their next clue.
Photobucket

First on the RB.
Adrienne: First try was wrong but he was right on his 2nd attempt.

Second on the RB was Natasha but she was wrong on her 1st attempt.
So Dianne was now prepared to do the task but realized hat Ann has left with the car. According to the rules, both teammates must be present to begin the Roadblock. With no inkling where Ann is, Diane has no choice but to let Marc and Rovilson take the plunge first.

On Marc's first attempt he was correct and now they are team #2.
Isn't it amazing to hear?

So Dianne was next and she was wrong. Tasha now on her 2nd attempt and she finally had a correct answer. Last in the RB was the Malaysian siblings. Pam did it twice too.

NEXT CLUE:
Teams must now find the actual location of the Hercules Fountain, whose image is found on the 1,000 Hungarian forint note. The fountain itself is located in the Castle of Visegrad.

All teams had difficulty in finding the castle.

LAST CLUE”
Teams must now drive to the next pitstop, at Salamon Tower. This will be the 10th pitstop of the race. However, one very important aspect of this task is that teams must find a specially marked entrance, and must park their car in the marked area as well before proceeding to the pitstop.

Photobucket

First team to arrive :Adrienne & Colleen but Allan told them that they have to leave the car in the marked area so they must head back down and find the correct entrance. Anyway the editing was deceiving they were trying to show that it was a neck to neck race between A&C vs M&R.
Anyway FINAL STANDINGS:

1ST PLACE: ADRIENNE & COLEEN ( still boring)
2ND PLACE : MARC & ROV ( I love the stealth mode at the pit stop)
3RD PLACE: PAM & VAN (we saw a panicky Vanessa in the car)
4TH PLACE : THE DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES ( I still hate them)
LAST PLACE BUT SAFE: PAULA & TASHA

The good news is that was a non-elimination round. The bad news is, Paula and Natasha must come in first in the next round, or face a 30 minute time penalty.

NIFTY, FUNNY & SWEET

JUNO

Photobucket

This film reminds me of Knocked Up & Superbad.
Knocked Up talks about unwanted pregnancy and Superbad has a beautiful & nifty script
Mixed them together you'll get the surprise comedy hit of the year. Juno!

Photobucket

I love this film coz it's honest & good-hearted. I can even compare this with my own life.
I don't wanna elaborate my own story but I am sort of the Jennifer Garner here.
Yeah, I adopted a handsome baby and I was there at the hospital when he was born.
That scene with Jennifer in the nursery is so heart-wrenching. I couldn't stop my flowing tears watching her in that moving scene. I just couldn't believe that she wasn't nominated . Jennifer really surprised me! She's so effective and God I love her so much! Maybe because she's a mother now and she really performed the part naturally and amazingly.

Photobucket

Photobucket

The tandem of Ellen Page & Michael Cera is sweet. I love watching them. They look weird but you'd still adore their chemistry. Ellen is a revelation. I really agree with the Academy and the rest of the award giving bodies for recognizing her talent in Juno. She delivers her performance with pure emotions .Ellen Page plays Juno, the spunky, eccentric, nifty but pregnant teenager . At first her character is annoying but after watching her struggles during pregnancy you will love Juno all the way! Michael Cera from “Superbad” plays her bestfriend Bleek and the father of her child. Superbad is one of my surprising hit flicks last year. I enjoyed it because of Michael. His acting is just not normal but he's kind of lackadaisical to me. That's why I love him. He is not good looking and hot but you'd still like him. My fav scenes of them are their warm embrace in the hospital bed and of course the last scene with their guitars. It's the perfect way to end the film.

Photobucket

Juno & Bleek had an unwanted sex in the story and you will love how the writer attacks the issue about abortion and adoption. It's the modest approach and you will appreciate it. Right now I can already see the presentors opening the envelope and saying: “And the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay goes to Diablo Cody – JUNO!!! No doubt about it! I'm crossing my fingers.

Photobucket

Kudos to the supporting cast! Hats off to JK Simmons & Allison Janney as Juno's parents. Both are perfect! Jason Bateman is also here as Jennifer's wife and he's also likable.

Photobucket

The direction is just simple that's why I was surprised that Jason Reitman was nominated in the Oscars. I think Joe Wright is deserving to get that nomination for his job in Atonement.

The best and possibly the hook of the film is the soundtrack. Yeah, listening to the songs compiled by anti-folk singer Kimya Dawson is exhilarating. The songs have a childish appeal that's why it's catchy and you just can't get 'em out of your head. I love listening to the songs played in the film such as Tree Hugger, Loose Lips, Tire Swing, My Rollercoaster, Vampire & Anyone Else But You. I suggest that you should buy the OST coz it's unbelievably great!

Photobucket

“Juno” may be the “Little Miss Sunshine” this awarding season but it stands out as the most surprising,
funny and possibly the best film of the year.

Juno rocks!!!!!!!
